MARION, N.Y. — New York State Police say the driver of a car that was found partially submerged in a creek in Marion was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the man Tuesday as 35-year-old Adam Vitalone of Marion.

Troopers say a passerby spotted the car off Townline Road around 1 p.m. Monday, but they believe the wreck happened sometime Sunday night.

Neighbors say they heard a sound around 9:30 or 10 p.m. Sunday, but didn't see anything when they looked outside.

Police say one of the factors they're looking into is snow.

"Obviously weather may have been a factor. It was snowing last night, there's still snow on the ground today, but we're still trying to piece together what happened. As soon as we get the identity of the person who was operating the vehicle, we'll talk to people that he knows, family members, friends that may help us put together exactly what the events were prior to this accident," said Mark O’Donnell, New York State Police.
