LOCKPORT, N.Y. — Western New York high schoolers got a real-life history lesson from local veterans Tuesday.

Lockport High School seniors heard from the 107th Attack Wing based at the Niagara Falls Air National Guard Base.

It was part of "Take a Vet to School Day," which is a long-standing collaborative effort between Spectrum, its parent company Charter Communications and the History Channel.

Veterans shared their stories with students about life in the military at home and overseas.

"[Students] actually see and hear people talking instead of just reading about it online or in newspapers. And they can just see it firsthand what it’s like, hear stories about it," said Kaitlyn Pettit, Lockport senior.

The event was also designed to recruit future military hopefuls.

Charter Communications is also the parent company of Spectrum News.
