NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- The former Holy Family Jesus, Mary and Joseph School off Pine Avenue hasn't welcomed students through its doors for a long time.

Just like its across the street neighbor, which was once a convent, it will soon serve a new purpose, and welcome Catholic Charities service providers.

"We will bring them all together to operate out of one sight and with our Children's Clinic, we will create a one-stop service center to address the needs of children, adults and families in Niagara Falls," said Catholic Charities CEO Dennis Walczyk.

Officials unveiled plans that will see the school converted into the $2.4 million Glynn Family Services Center.

That will house everything from family services to workforce education.

"Consolation of Catholic Charities services into this location will go a long way to better serving families here," said Maid of the Mist President Christopher Glynn.

"People who come to Catholic Charities have multiple needs. So to have all the sites in one geographic location makes it a lot more easy for families and individuals to access the service and also makes it less difficult for Catholic Charities to coordinate a response to these families," said Walczyk.

Aside from being able to recycle a long-vacant vacant, and its proximity to one of its existing facilities, the school's location off Pine Avenue makes it ideal for best serving Niagara Falls.

"This is a center that's going to be very, very accessible to the people of Niagara Falls, but I think in many ways this Pine Avenue neighborhood is the heart of the city," said Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster.

Catholic Charities will break ground on the center before the end of the year and hope to open before summer 2018.
