It’s the final act for elephants. They are now officially banned at entertainment events throughout the state.

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill that prohibits the animals from being used in circuses, carnivals, parades or trade shows.

It’s part of the state’s effort to fight animal cruelty.

Cuomo says entertainment elephants live half as long as wild elephants because of abuse and stress from performing tricks.

Acts can face a civil penalty of up to $1,000.

The City Council passed a similar bill in July, banning wild animals from circuses in the five boroughs.

The law comes after Ringling Brothers circus, which stopped using elephants in May 2016, went out of business earlier this year.
