BATAVIA, N.Y. -- Some exciting changes for students at Genesee Community College as the Richard C. Call Arena is now open.

The new 54,000 square-foot facility contains physical education classrooms, a fitness center, meeting rooms and a press box overlooking the turf field.

The new fieldhouse can hold events from sporting competitions to community gatherings.

"The doors have been built specifically large enough to accommodate large machines which I think is consideration for the population," said Robert Boyce, GCC trustee. "We are in a farm country, and it is so wonderful for them to recognize how important farmers are to this community."

The arena's namesake was a member of the GCC Foundation Board from 2001 until his death in 2014.

The arena and a new student success center were partially funded by a $5 million capital campaign.
