BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Construction is typically a pain in any neighborhood, but one block on the east side is embracing the mess.

Residents on Wright Avenue say that’s because it’s all for a good cause. Crews have been hard at work right across the street, as they replace the roof on St. Lawrence Church.

The roof began leaking more than a year ago, but the work was held up due to the hefty $95,000 price tag. After months of fund raising -- and lots of prayers -- the church was finally able to make it happen.

Asbestos in the roof has kept parishioners out of the building during the week as those crews work to clear it out, but they are able to return for Sunday worship.

"It’s finally happened, you know? There was a lot of going back and forth and it really was an eye sore. We were wondering when that blue paper was going to come off the roof and it finally did,” said Kenneth Lowry.

The project is scheduled to be complete in the next two weeks.
