BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Tifft Street Bridge, which connects South Buffalo to the waterfront, is too narrow and vehicles go too fast, according to Erie County Legislator Patrick Burke.

Burke submitted a resolution Friday, calling for four lanes of traffic reduced down to two, and for wider pedestrian bike lanes. Burke says this is about more than safety – it's also about access.

"We've invested a ton of money down there, now we can't get there. To get there safely, you'd have to drive. It's absurd that a community that lives basically along the waterfront that they have to get in their car and drive to the waterfront," said Burke, D-7th District. "It makes no sense."

Burke attributes frequent car crashes where Tifft meets South Park Avenue to high speeds on the bridge.
