CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- Cheektowaga Councilman Jim Rogowski has officially announced his candidacy in the race for the 143rd State Assembly District this fall.

Rogowski, a democrat, announced Thursday he would challenge incumbent assemblywoman Angela Wozniak. Rogowski has served on the Cheektowaga Town Council for 12 years and is a teacher in the Lockport City School District.

He said he is running to try to restore funding for his district and to help reform state education and public transportation.

"I realize times are bleak in our assembly district, with the unfortunate ethical problems, and for the first time in recent years the funding in Lancaster and Cheektowaga has gone to zero," said Rogowski. "We have the chemistry and the hard work and the work dedication and energy to make a progressive change for a better future ahead."

The 143rd district includes the Towns of Cheektowaga and Lancaster and the Village of Depew.
