A pastor's home in Batavia may be a total loss after a fire tore through it Sunday night.

Officials from the Batavia Fire Department say a passerby called 911 when they noticed flames coming from the parsonage of Faith Community Chapel.

Firefighters had trouble getting to the source of the fire because of a metal roof on the building — they needed to saw through the roof to get to the fire.

A family dog was able to escape, but one cat is still missing.

"Pastor Gene and his wife were living there, actually built this church back in the 70s," said pastor Henry Pokrywa, Faith Community Chapel. "They were living there. We were having our service and everybody was at the other building, the church next door and nobody got hurt. We're thankful for that."

The congregation says it will help the pastor and his wife.

No word yet from firefighters on what started the fire.
