BUFFALO, N.Y. — The mother of the 2-year-old boy who died on Weaver Street this week is now charged with manslaughter.

Keona Owens, 22, pleaded not guilty in connection to the death of her son, Xavion Hazzard.

This comes just days after her boyfriend, Bashar Hall, 23, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in connection to the death.

Authorities say the incident happened Tuesday afternoon in the couple’s Weaver Street home where Hall lived with Owens and her three children.

Hall is not the boy's father. The couple does have two children together, including a one-year-old girl and a 2-month-old girl.

Authorities said due to confidentiality, they cannot say where the children are, but CPS is involved.

Police say both adults were home when Xavion was shaken and beaten to death. The medical examiner said the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Police would not comment on whether there was a history of domestic violence at the home or whether it was was Hall, Owens or both who beat the child, saying each played an equal role in Xavion's death.

No cameras were allowed in the courtroom.
