AVON, N.Y. — After a major renovation, the historic Avon Inn in Livingston County is now less than a month away from reopening.

New owners Jim and Jen Krause have spent the last 14 months restoring, revamping and redecorating the Greek Revival-style inn that dates back to the 1840's.

They overhauled all of the infrastructure and opened up the floor plan to brighten the space. They're maintaining the inn's history with antique fixtures and finishes.

"We feel an incredible responsibility to the Avon Inn," Jim said. "We are just the stewards of the Avon Inn for this period and we want to do right by it and maintain its history. We want to keep it open to the public with the bar and grill and the tavern and of course celebrating weddings. It has a long history of weddings and of course we want to continue that."

The first event at the renovated inn is a black-tie New Year's Eve Gala, for which tickets are still available.

The tavern and grill will open the first week of January.

Renovations to the 14 hotel rooms continue.
