ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Bills ground game has hit a bump in the road the last few weeks with opposing defenses keying on LeSean McCoy, but the passing game showed some life against Denver and that can only help the team moving foward.

"It's frustrating for me just to not be able to contribute like I want to, but if I have to be a decoy and win games, it's got to happem, McCoy said.

After an 110 yard rushing performance in the opener, LeSean McCoy's been shut down; just 30 yards on 26 carries. Teams are putting extra defenders close to the line of scrimmage, something that's working now, but could spark a return to success.

"Sometimes against a stacked box it'll be tough sledding, but then you'll hit your big ones because there's not enough coverage on the back end for them once you get past it," said Bills center Eric Wood. "So we just need to do a better job of moving them."

The Bills are 1-1 while the ground game struggles. As the passing attack showed against Denver, they must make teams pay for selling out on the run.

"We should probably take it more personally that teams might not key on us as much and are going to say, 'hey, if we're going to lose, we're going to try and let the receivers and the passing game beat us,'" said Bills wide receiver Jordan Matthews. "But I think that's just what the story was probably going to be at the beginning of the season just because he is such a great running back. So if anything, we just need to go out there and continue to make plays."

McCoy can also be part of the passing game, something he joked with by asking Tyrod Taylor during his press conference Wednesday how to get him more involved. He's been plenty through three games, leading the team in catches and second in receiving yards, showing the offense still knows it needs to run through Shady.

"Rico's trying to find ways to get the ball in open space to get me one-on-one opportunities in the passing game," McCoy said. "I was joking with him, but I'm always in his ear in the huddle, 'Hey, I'm going to beat them. Hey, he can't cover me.' Even when I'm covered, I'll just tell him that."

McCoy hasn't had three-straight games under 50 yards rushing since the end of the 2012 season.
