Anchor Casey Bortnick brings you the latest news from WNY weeknights on Spectrum News.
Promoted to his current role in July 2012, Casey was reporter for the station’s Healthy Living franchise since 2008 and as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor in Rochester since 2006.
Prior to that, he worked for the company in Jamestown for five years. There, he made a name for himself covering the five-month manhunt for fugitive Ralph “Bucky” Phillips for all four of Spectrum News’ Upstate New York news channels and briefly for CNN.
Throughout his career, Casey has been distinguished with three RTDNA Regional Edward R. Murrow awards and two New York Associated Press Broadcasters awards. He was nominated in 2012 for his first NY Emmy award.
A native of the New York's North Country, he graduated from Au Sable Valley Central School outside of Plattsburgh. Casey is a graduate of SUNY Morrisville where he studied journalism technology and was named captain of the Mustang football team.
Casey holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from SUNY Brockport where he honed his skills hosting his own sports talk show at WBSU radio and covering numerous news and sporting events.
Casey is the youngest of five children and enjoys spending time with his seven nephews and three nieces. His father is the environmental health officer at Plattsburgh State University and his mom is a school nurse at North Eastern Clinton Central School.
Casey is an avid sports fan who follows the New York Jets and the New York Mets. He’s also a big fan of Notre Dame football.
