An Elmira man is facing up to seven years in prison after being convicted of felony assault against an eight-month-old child in Stuben County.

Steffan Miller, 29, assaulted the child in the town of Bath last November. He is not related to the child but was caring for the child at the time.

The conviction comes at the end of a week-long bench trial for charges of second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He also allegedly tampered with evidence in an attempt to cover up the incident.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 17.
