ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Despite what head coach Sean McDermott said afterwards, A.J. McCarron playing the entire fourth preseason game on Thursday night was a clear indication he was not in the mix to be the Bills starting quarterback.

With Nathan Peterman and Josh Allen ahead of him on the depth chart, if McCarron was not going to play, Brandon Beane once again pulling off a deal to get value rather than see a player stand on the sidelines.

So Beane shipping McCarron to the Raiders in exchange for a 2019 5th round pick.

McCarron was signed to a two-year deal this off-season and was rotating every other day with Peterman dating back to OTAs and minicamp.

He was the back-up in the preseason opener against the Panthers, going 7/10 for 116 yards. That was followed-up by getting the start in Cleveland the following week, where he was just 3/6 for 12 yards and left the game with a shoulder injury that kept him out the third preseason game.

McCarron returned to action in the finale in Chicago, where he and the Bills offense struggled tremendously through three quarters, before rallying for 25 points in the fourth, led by McCarron's three passing and one rushing touchdowns.

This leaves Peterman and Allen as the only QBs currently on the roster.
