If Cuomo were to prevail — and early polls point to a victory — he would face a Republican challenger in Marc Molinaro, plus independent Stephanie Miner, Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins and Libertarian candidate Larry Sharpe.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo seeks to become the first Democrat elected to a third term as new York's governor since his father Mario Cuomo earned his third and final term in 1990. Cuomo kicked off 2018 with a 62 percent favorability rating, according to a Siena College poll.
Actress and activist Cynthia Nixon launched a bid for governor this spring as a Democrat, setting up a primary with Andrew Cuomo this September. Nixon, an actress best known for her role in “Sex And The City” has been a persistent critic of public education policy in New York.
