A substance abuse coalition, receives thousands in federal aid.

Tioga County’s Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention coalition is getting a boost of more than $124,000 over the next five years. The funding comes directly from the Drug Free Community grant.

A.S.A.P will use the funding as part of its 12 month action plan.

“It’s funding that is specifically meant for coalition work,” said Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition Project Director Christina Olevano. “So that is also exciting because our coalition was previously unfunded for two years and we had actually applied for this grant last year and we didn’t receive it so we were determined to fix some of the things that we needed to fix.”

The funding will also allow the coalition to hire a full-time coordinator.
