An Endicott man is getting national recognition. Chris Chechatka was named volunteer of the year by PGA Tour Champions for his work on the Dicks Sporting Goods Open.

Chechatka has been a volunteer with the tournament for 40 years. He has helped with cleanup, score boards, and prepping the golf course.

This past year proved to be challenging as Chechatka was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer. Through his fight, Chechatka says the community has helped.

"All the volunteers, all the fans, the players, they are family. It's much more than feeling a commitment to volunteer, it's a lot more about being with your family," Chechatka said.

Dick's Sporting Goods Open is also being recognized as the PGA Players favorite tournament.
