DICKINSON, N.Y. -- Community colleges have long been the go-to for individuals working full time or raising families.

But often times, continuing that education after earning an Associate's degree wasn't an option.

Now, SUNY Broome is partnering with Bellevue University in Nebraska. It will offer both online and on campus courses that will go toward a Bachelor's degree.

"This is a great option for folks who maybe were thinking about going to get their degree or maybe just don't have the flexibility, this provides tremendous opportunities to get Bachelor's degrees and even Masters degrees right here in town," said Kevin Drumm, SUNY Broome President.

The program offers alternative learning formats that allow students to work toward their degree while balancing other responsibilities.

Bellevue officials say it will help neighbors in the southern tier expand their horizons.

"You can do it in the morning, you can do it in the evening, you can do it in the weekends. You set the time and you have to be disciplined but that's where the person doesn't have to quit their job. They don’t have to neglect family," said Jim Nekuda, Bellevue University Strategic Partnerships Vice President)).

Along with the flexibility, students will now have more options when it comes to majors including graphic design and sports management.

"This provides more options for our students who are looking to stay in the area and complete a Bachelor's degree and maybe just don't have the flexibility to go over to Binghamton University which is a great option if you have the flexibility in your life," said Drumm.

Students will also be able to participate in weekend residencies in their field of choice.
