VESTAL, N.Y. -- It was a busy night for emergency services crews in Broome County.

The 911 dispatch center took 1,500 storm-related calls Thursday night.

This came as police responded to 186 different crashes throughout the county.

The Vestal Parkway was backed up for hours, with several cars stranded on the side of the road. This made it difficult for first responders to get to their destinations.

The director of Broome County's Emergency Services says it also made it difficult for dispatchers.

"Determining somebody's location when you're on the side of the road is challenging, so making sure that we had all of the accidents and everybody accounted for that needed assistance and that we got it there as soon as could," said Mike Ponticello, Broome County Emergency Services Director.

So far, there are no reports of any serious injuries.
