VESTAL, N.Y. -- A charity that helps feed 10,000 people for Thanksgiving each year is in danger of coming up short.

The Catholic Charities "Thanks 4 Giving" Turkey Drive in Broome County has a goal of collecting 4,000 turkeys.

So far only 1,200 have been donated.

Despite the low numbers, the drive did get a big boost from some local police agencies.

Officers throughout Broome County donated 250 turkeys today.

Members of Catholic Charities are making one final push to boost those numbers.

"Thanksgiving is supposed to be a time we're celebrating our families and our communities and there will be people that are not able to do that if we don’t get these baskets," said Mary Whitcombe, Catholic Charities Emergency Services Manager.

Donations are being accepted at the Vestal Walmart through Friday night.
