Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital will soon open a new wing in Sayre.

“This is where our cardiology patients will be taken care of and very much looking forward to it,” said Daniel Sporn, the Guthrie Robert Packer chief of cardiology.

The unit is designed to be a “Units-of-One.“ The idea is that it’ll give more connectivity between patients and nurses.

“That is, the patient and the care team really working and binding together in ways we haven’t had before,” said Mary Hicks, the Guthrie Robert Packer cardiology nurse manager.

The renovation cost was just under $3 million. It was a complete upgrade of the entire space.

“There is no traditional nursing units stations. So the nurses will be in the nurses in the care partners will be constantly available to the patient and patient’s families," said Joseph Sawyer, the Guthrie Robert Packer president and CEO.

It features single bed units, but more importantly technology to keep caregivers and patients engaged with one another.

“We’ve got technology now for our patience to communicate with us a little bit better. We’ve got ways in which our doors actually our quieter," said Kate Mohr, the Guthrie Robert Packer executive vice president and chief nursing officer.

“It really allows our patience to be calm a partner in their care. It allows them to take some action and asked some questions," said Hicks.

Now patients will be able to text nurses questions. Even get live test results.

“It certainly is cutting edge and technology wise Lien efficiency and the environment of self," said Sawyer.

And with it expected to open in a couple weeks it’ll be ready to accept new patients.
