BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – It was a welcome sight for residents in Binghamton's first ward, as paving is underway on part of the Front Street Gateway Project.

Crews have been working on Front Street, from Winding Way to Prospect Street since April.

Detours have been causing headaches for drivers trying to enter or leave the city's downtown area.

Several residents and business owners have also voiced concerns with the length of the project.

According to city leaders, the rainy summer caused some delays with construction - but things are moving as quickly as possible.

"Within the last two to three weeks, we've seen a lot of increasing changes. The contractors that are currently working on the project, they've moved from working five days a week to six days a week to make sure we're meeting the first level deadline," said Giovanni Scaringi, Binghamton City Council - District 1.

That first level deadline is on Thanksgiving, with the entire project set for completion in the spring.
