Authorities say one person was killed Sunday when a bus carrying about a dozen Cornell University students went off Interstate 380 in Covington Township, down near Wilkes-Barre, and landed in a ditch.

According to Cornell, the victim was Rebecca Blanco, a 33-year-old from California.

Blanco was a recent master’s graduate, receiving her MBA in 2017.

There is no word on the condition of the students on-board, but a helicopter and other emergency personnel were brought to the scene Sunday night.

A Cornell spokesman says, "University Police are in contact with area emergency responders, who report that other passengers on the private bus line also sustained injuries in the crash. We will be monitoring the situation closely as our thoughts and prayers remain with all of those involved."
