A park in Canisteo will now honor a fallen hero in the community.

Patriots Park on Main Street is expected to be renamed in honor of Trooper Nicholas Clark. Clark was responding to a domestic call when he was shot and killed in Corning.

Clark was a two-sport athlete in Canisteo. He's the village's only state champion wrestler. He was also on the school's football team and would later play at Alfred University.

Plans are also in the works to renovate the park. The renovations would include a fountain.

“A lot of the folks who still live here think very highly of Nick and his whole family and so that was brought to a village board meeting and the board was very excited to hear that this was recommended,“ said Canisteo Mayor Monica Recktenwald.

The village board will likely approve the move at Tuesday’s meeting. It could take two years to finish the project.
