Students in Bath, get a lesson, not in algebra or history, but instead financial literacy.

A specialized school branch of ServU credit union opened Wednesday at Haverling high school

The branch will be open during lunch periods. 11 upperclassman will work at the branch. The credit union will also provide a mentor for the students. ServU also has two other student run branches.

The Superintendent said it’s critical to teach students about financial literacy as early as possible.

“Financial literacy is a lost skill. You know all the requirements that are done with state Ed you know with all the pieces of the common core and everything else that you’re hearing, we really need to provide the basics including financial literacy, common budgeting,” said Joe Rumsey, the Bath CSD superintendent.

Dundee and Hornell are also expected to open up branches.
