The Wineglass Marathon race weekend in Steuben County is set to get underway.

This year is the 37th annual wine glass marathon. It’s a race that brings thousands of runners to downtown Corning.

More than 7,000 runners from 48 different states will hit the pavement over the weekend. Friday and Saturday, people can pick up their bibs at the Corning Museum of Glass.

The main event, the Guthrie Wineglass Marathon, is scheduled to kick off Sunday in Bath and will end in Corning. The marathon will start Sunday morning at 8:15.

Other weekend events include a half marathon and the Corelle 5k. The half marathon kicks off at 7:45 a.m. The Corelle 5k is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. Saturday. Runners are advised that there will be no race day bib pickups for the marathon or half marathon.

“They have the opportunity to shop either for wineglass Marathon gear or other needs, shoes or steaks or sunglasses, whatever they might need just to keep their training going for the rest of the year,“ said Sheila Sutton, the race director.

Runnings can also pick up their bibs (numbers) on Saturday from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
