Businesses from throughout the Southern Tier join state senator Fred Akshar to bring their top issues to the table.

The business advisory council consists of more than a dozen companies, from a small web design business to major construction corporations. One of the top issues across the board is with rising health insurance costs.

Several business leaders spoke about having to cut staff because of increases. Another challenge for local businesses is finding a properly trained workforce.

Owners say it's great to share ideas and hear from other types of businesses.

"I think it's great to get the diversity of the board here and see everyone's different perspectives from different industries, some issues that are affecting industries differently than ours," said Freshysites Owner Ben Giordano.

Akshar is expected to share these issues at the next state session.
