As summer officially winds down the colors of fall are starting to appear on the landscape.

I Love New York is starting to release its fall foliage reports. Changes are already happening in the Adirondacks, the Catskills and parts of the Fingerlakes.

Peak foliage is around the beginning of October.

A forestry expert tells us recent flooding won’t affect the color changes. However it’s critical to have clear days to be able to take in the various colors.

“The even more important factor related to weather during foliage season is having days that we don’t have a lot of wind, we don’t have heavy rain because that can really shorten the duration of the colorful foliage," said Brett Chedzoy, a regional extension forester with Cornell Coop. Extensions.

The colors should be starting to change in the next couple of weeks. High altitude parks offer the best views.
