With all the talk about mid-term elections, it seems like the focus is on November. But, there is still much to be decided at the polls Thursday on Primary Day.

Here's a look at a handful of those races making headlines in the Southern Tier this election season.

Tompkins County Sheriff

After serving in the county's top law enforcement position, Tompkins County Sheriff Ken Lansing is seeking a third term. But, the Democrat is being challenged by someone familiar with the Sheriff's Department, former Undersheriff Derek Osborne.

The winner will go head to head against Independent candidate Josh Brokaw in November.

Otsego County Sheriff

Another sheriff looking to hold onto his seat in the Southern Tier is Richard Devlin Jr., Otsego County Sheriff. His opponent in the primary is Robert Fernandez. Both want the Republican nomination.

There's no Democrat in the race, so the winner takes all.

122nd Assembly District

Incumbent Clifford Crouch has held the position for 23 years and has always run unopposed. This time, however, he's being challenged by newcomer Nick Libous.

While Libous may be new to the scene, he's certainly no stranger to politics. He is the son of the late senator Tom Libous.

Town of Union Supervisor

In the Town of Union, a Supervisor seat has gained attention, not because of the candidates, but rather the person being replaced.

Rose Sotak, announced she would not seek re-election following a legal battle involving the Town Board. Richard Materese and Frank Palmisano are looking for the Democratic nod while Frank Bertoni and Kenneth Del Bianco, on the Republican side.

The winners will face off in November.
