WINDSOR, N.Y. -- With an eye on the future, there is a new program in the Windsor Central School District hoping to help students get a jump start on their careers.

It's called the Future Ready Knights Program and allows children, starting in sixth grade, to pursue careers within the community.

Students will have the opportunity to take field trips, receive hands-on training, and build their own career plan.

The district also hired a full-time career counselor to support the program.

Careers focus on business, finance, health care and computer science, among others.

Superintendent Jason Andrews says this is a great opportunity for both students and local businesses.

"The employers can largely become masters of their own destiny in terms of really recruiting a talented workforce right here from our high quality schools and be able to have those partnerships in place,” he said.

There are currently more than 4,000 jobs available in Broome County.
