SHERBURNE, N.Y. — Businesses in New York can now legally sell beer and hard cider ice cream.

The owners of Gilligan's Ice Cream in Sherburne are excited to start serving their six new flavors.

They say it will not only satisfy the taste buds, but also bring economic growth to their community.

Andy Lagoe believes this unique product could help the struggling dairy industry and small businesses.

"The small businesses are really the backbone of the communities," Lagoe said. "You know your customers personally. They come in on a regular basis, you say ‘hi’ to them, and you give them a new product to try."

Lagoe says they've already partnered with Good Nature Brewing and some wineries.

Gilligan's Ice Cream will be celebrating by handing out samples this Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
