The State Senate's Heroin Task Force has approved a nearly $4 million plan to provide addiction services at jails.

One of the 17 facilities receiving money is the Broome County Jail.

$400,000 will be used to treat inmates, with the goal of making their lives more productive once their time is served.

"Anytime we can again get people into the road to recovery as quickly as possible they become contributing members of society. It's incumbent upon us to provide the most basic of human services to people,” said Fred Akshar, (R) Senate – Binghamton.

Tioga and Tompkins Counties are also receiving about $156,000 to improve their addiction services.
