BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Tenants of the Carlisle Hills Apartment Complex saw their homes turn into a crime scene on Memorial Day.

After a confrontation a few streets over, 29-year-old Eric Cureton was shot in the abdomen while sitting in his parked SUV.

Police say the suspects knew the victim. They allegedly rode off on motorcycles and remain at large.

Just 12 hours later, investigators say several shots were fired into a Vestal Avenue Apartment in retaliation. Those suspects would also get away.

Wednesday, police respond to yet another shooting, this time on St. John Avenue

"There seems to be some consistency in the fact that the common denominator is that the victim and the perpetrator or perpetrators in some shape or form are known to one another,” said Cory Minor, Binghamton Police Lieutenant.

Police were able to track down one of the suspects of the St. John Avenue shooting, 40-year-old James Durham, on Glenwood Avenue.

As for the other suspects, they are still at large, but Lt. Cory Minor says the search hasn't ended.

"These are still active cases. All leads are being followed up on diligently by the detective bureau. They are active investigations,” he said.

Minor says these shootings are not random acts, therefore there is no risk to the public. But, he is reminding the community to pay attention to anything that looks out of the ordinary.

"I think regardless of what area you're in, it's important for the public to be aware of your surroundings. Often times you'll find that people don't realize what they're seeing or hearing. That could also be valuable information to the police,” said Minor.

The victims of these shootings are said to be recovering.

Anyone with tips about the three shootings can call the Binghamton's Detective Bureau at 607-772-7080.
