The Union-Endicott High School cross country team started running at 4 p.m. Tuesday — and won't stop for 24 hours.

The students will take turns every 2 miles, all in an effort to raise money for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

With recent suicides making headlines, the students said they wanted to do all they can to help, and set their goal is to raise $3,000.

They hope this fundraiser also encourages people to do more than just donate.

"I hope they look at it and say 'Wow, I really should start paying attention more in the community'," said Dominic Pasquale, a Union-Endicott High School cross country senior. "Hoping that they'll look at someone who doesn't make eye contact or finish their sentences quickly or don't really talk to people, maybe they'll just start talking to them more."
