Students in Johnson City honor our nation's heroes ahead of Memorial Day.

The group went to Calvary Cemetery to place handmade flags on the graves of those who served in the military.

A few soldiers were also there, to speak with students about what the day actually means.

A staff sergeant, who just returned from a 9-month deployment to Afghanistan, says it's great to see these kids showing their support.

"They are very patriotic, and want to show their gratitude to military personnel, whether they're living and breathing, still active, or they're retired, or gave their lives on the line, for Memorial Day, for our freedom,” said Staff Sgt. Tamila Edmund.

This has been a tradition in Johnson City schools for six years now.
