The dissolution of the village of Van Etten is moving forward and close to being green lit as some residents worry about fire protection.

The village's fire department would dissolve with the village. Chemung County emergency management officials said the village is looking at contracting with the town's fire department. But until that point, some people are questioning the village's ability to handle an emergency.

“They don't have the resources really. They've been asked on several occasions for their training records. They have been asked for maintenance records, they've been asked for their emergency medical services roster and their sort of current certifications and the fire department has not been forthcoming," said Mark Cicora, Chemung County Fire and Emergency Management Director.

A public hearing on the dissolution is scheduled for June 6th.
