A familiar name in the Southern Tier has entered the race for the 122nd State Assembly seat.

Nick Libous, the son of late state senator Tom Libous has announced his candidacy for the seat currently held by Clifford Crouch. His father Tom served the 52nd Senate District from 1988 to 2015 before his career was cut short by a corruption conviction, which later wound up being vacated after his death.

Nick Libous hopes to work to reduce taxes and make New York a more affordable state to live. His campaign also focuses on helping businesses create more opportunities for young people and imposing term limits.

"It's important for people to always a chance to decide who represents them,” said Nick Libous in a phone interview. “Serving in Albany is not an entitlement and I believe it's in all our best interests that we have an open debate on the issues."

If Libous gets enough signatures to appear on the ballot, he will challenge Crouch in a primary this September.
