UNADILLA, N.Y. -- Members of New York State Police Troop C are remembering the men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty.

Retired and current members joined law enforcement agencies from across the region for a memorial ceremony.

92-year-old retired trooper Charles Kneller was also honored for his service.

He served in the Vestal area for 20 years, after being awarded two purple hearts and a bronze star in World War Two.

Troop C Major William McEvoy hopes Kneller will serve as an inspiration to the force.

"What an outstanding example for young troopers or even older troopers like myself to look up to and respect and it's important to see him here today with his daughter, still supporting the state police," said William McEvoy, State Police Troop C Major.

Troop C serves 560,000 people stretching from the Catskill Mountains to the Fingerlakes.

There are currently 363 members.
