The sun was shining in the Southern Tier as hundreds of people came out to raise money for a good cause.

Saturday was the 6th annual Running of the Bears at Vestal High School.

The 5k raises money for Team Hopefull, an organization that helps people with Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Prader-Willi is a genetic disorder that affects things like growth and metabolism. Organizers started the event after a teacher's family member was diagnosed with it.

"We really want to give back to these kids,” said Race Director Sue Darpino. “Cammie, Ellie, Gabby, Tommy are some of our local inspirations and we're just really happy to be able to support them and their families."

The race usually raises up to $7,000 for local families.
