Bon Ton survived the Great Depression as well as technological and cultural advancements for decades. But now the retailer's road of success is coming to an end.

The chain is reportedly expected to close after liquidators were the only two bidders at the auction.

Executives filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February, hoping an investor or new buyer would keep the company alive.

Now the future of Bon Ton in Oakdale Mall does not look promising, which leaves many shoppers extremely upset.

"I grew up in this area, coming to this mall,” Endwell resident Dorine Severino. “We've lost Macy's, we've lost Sears, and now to lose Bon Ton, that's huge. We don't have a lot of options for high end clothing, for dress clothes, whether it's for me or for my children. So, it's going to be a big loss."

The company closed 47 stores earlier this year.
