Race season is officially underway at Watkins Glen International.

The first people to drive on the course are college students in the Green Grand Prix. They compete in a number of events using eco-friendly cars. And opening weekend festivities are all about the fans. For $25 guests will be able to drive their own cars around the track.

Officials say they're all geared up for an exciting season at the Glen.

"We know that this is kind of like, it's here. Whether we like it or not we've been planning all winter for the entire race season. This is just one of the events that we have all season. There are eight paid events that we have plus we're using the track every day for car clubs." Said Michael Printup, Watkins Glen International President.

Gates will open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
