It’s the time of year when those orange signs start popping up along highways.

DOT officials are hoping drivers will slow down and give workers a break.

Thursday was, "Wear Orange Day." The goal is to get motorists to use caution, especially around construction sites.

The eye-catching color is often worn by road workers to increase their visibility to drivers.

But, officials say it's a two-way street. Drivers need to stay alert and obey traffic signs.

"We just all wanted to get together and show some solidarity for our coworkers as well as all the other construction workers who are going to be out on the road shortly for the season putting their life on the line every day, basically just to make the roads safer for the traveling public,” said Construction Specialist Joseph Balogh.

Drivers can also do their part by slowing down and not using cellphones while driving.
