The Broome High School Democrats hosted a Town Hall for Our Lives on Saturday, joining thousands of other students nationwide.

It was an opportunity for the community and elected officials to discuss ways to prevent gun violence in schools.

County Executive Jason Garnar, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and legislator Bob Weslar were all in attendance.

However, many were disappointed to see Representative Claudia Tenney's chair remain empty.

Students say they're hopeful that conversations like these will lead to a safer future

"What we need to see is action," said Benjamin Reynolds, the Broome High School Democrats president. "We're really glad that they're here listening to us, but really truly in the end what really matters is when they vote on something in Albany, Washington, locally or when they speak up for themselves and say something on behalf of our voices."

To raise more awareness, the Broome High School Democrats are hosting a Protest for Our Lives at Tenney's Binghamton office on April 20th.
