About 20 races were up for grabs in Tuesday's village elections -- most notably, the Owego mayor's seat, where it appears incumbent Steven May is out.

Mike Baratta III and Timothy Taft were both challenging May for the seat.

Baratta came out ahead in the race, but only by 9 votes. He currently holds a 264 to 255 vote lead over May, with absentee ballots yet to be counted.

Taft finished a distant third.

It's not yet clear how many absentees the Board of Elections received prior to the race.
