ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca Police Department's youngest member has passed away.

Colin Hayward Toland died Saturday, surrounded by his family.

A Facebook post said he spent his last day "outside and felt the sun on his face and the wind in his hair."

Officer Colin had been battling a brain tumor since the age of 2.

He was sworn-in as the youngest member of the Ithaca Police Department in 2016, at 9 years old.

His first arrest was taking the Grinch into custody for trying to steal Christmas.

Colin also became an honorary fire chief in Tompkins County.

Calling hours for Colin will be held this week at the Lansing Funeral Home.

A celebration of his life is also being planned at a later date.

Eric Trump, President Trump's son, tweeted his condolences Sunday afternoon:

A post on Officer Colin's Facebook page said: "Please carry Colin's spirit with you in life. Find opportunities to help others, even in small ways. Keep joy and light in your heart, as these will light the darkest pathways."
