He's now charged with second degree murder - accused of killing fellow Binghamton University student, Haley Anderson, last week.

Binghamton police discovered the 22-year-old nursing student's body at Tercero's home on Oak Street last Friday.

Investigators said she died of strangulation.

Tercero flew to Nicaragua where he's currently being detained.

The two were at one point involved in a relationship.

Anderson's roommate said she's relieved that Tercero has been charged, but no matter what happens, it's not going to bring Anderson back.

The DA said this charge will initiate the process to have Tercero extradited.

But he doesn't know the timeframe.

"That's up to diplomatic efforts," said Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell (R). "It's up to the Nicaraguan authorities, but it could as soon as a plane ride to Texas or Florida or as long as it takes."

The Anderson family said there are services being held on Long Island this weekend.

The funeral is Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
