ELMIRA, N.Y. — Harold Slingerland is at a loss for words after seeing what's left of his longtime neighbor's home.

"There was a lot of smoke, flames coming out the house," he said. "It's a tragedy when kids are gone, it's different from an adult."

"Wow, it looks like it's all gone,” said neighbor Zeta Watkins. “It's going to take some time for the rest of the family to heal."

A family that's now mourning the loss of three of its own.

Police say five-year-old Trinity Sheridan and six-year-old Omar Sheridan died Saturday night in a fire on Home Street.

Samuel Sheridan, 29, also was killed.

Neighbors now say it's important to support the rest of the family during this difficult time.

"Donations. They need everything. Their house is gone," Slingerland said.

As they hope for some closure.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
