New bipartisan legislation is hoping to help thousands of small businesses grow.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing for the 'Investing in America's Small Manufacturers Act.'

It calls for eliminating the start-up penalty, cutting loan fees and providing more education assistance, while increasing affordable loans through the Small Business Administration.

A local small business owner said this is a step in the right direction.

"It made it a little more difficult for us when we were going through the financing,” said 3i Graphics and Signs co-owner Nick Taro. “So, I think this is going to be very positive for a lot of different small businesses as they try to start up."

The SBA gave more than $30 billion to small businesses and supported more than 600,000 jobs in 2017.
