A traveling memorial to those who have paid the ultimate price to help keep others safe is now in Broome County, and a local man is among those it honors.

Deputy Kevin Tarsia served in the Broome County Sheriff's office.

He died in the line of duty in July of 2002 at the hands of David Sweat, one of the men who escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in 2015.

The mobile police memorial honors and remembers officers from seven different counties. Tarsia's brother and father came to support the memorial, as an opportunity to remember their loved one.

The mobile memorial will be in the Broome County Sheriff's Office for the next three weeks.
